Friends are for outside work frame. That's where the word colleague comes in place for office or work purpose.

I don't miss that. I used to work in a hospital and it was terrible for it.
@Starsandfire yep! It’s own little world of dysfunction 😂

Colleagues.. No friends in work just colleagues..
@ASLAN Yes I can understand that sentiment, but not always practical when you have been at the same workplace 10 years and I went to university with some of my coworkers 😊

@Notladylike true, but sometimes you'll to demote some of the friends to colleagues even if they're long time friends.. Work is about peace of mind.. If you'll become a liability and a pain in the ass then I'll have to cut u off.. Been there, don that.. Works like a charm 🤷♂️
A Bit cruel but it is what it is 🙂

Double edged characters are they?
@BeefySenpie Yes very. Get along great outside of work but weird political and throwing each under the bus can come in to play

Depends on the working environment I suppose. You can definitely be friends with the people you work with, but if it's a sales, dog eat dog, type of office, it's more likely to be a colleague /small friendship kind of atmosphere.
Can depend on environment, where you're from too. Are people generally open and friendly or reserved?
