Slaves got food and lodging so I suppose if you're saying somebody working who can only afford food and lodging from their wage, of which there are quite a few people, then alot of people are.

The abolition of the slave trade was the reason of birth registry because people in power then wanted everyone accounted for like slaves so I suppose from that point on the ruling classes created everyone being a slave to the country they were born in.

That said there are still some countries who have actual slaves, people who work for them and only get food and lodging and are thrown out if they steal toilet paper.

It depends on how you look at it.

Here in Australia it's often said that 'modern slavery' can describe long-term unemployed receiving the Australian government's JobActive Newstart income support payments and who are conscripted to do 'work for the dole' (ie. do 'fake work' in 'fake jobs' basically for charities which get paid to create the positions) for every 6 months out of 12 that that continue to be unemployed. Mature-age unemployment is a massive problem here.

@butterflybaby75 so charities get paid by the government to make job for people the government are giving money to.

Would it be better to make government jobs for the unemployed, legit jobs?

No. Slaves don’t get pay, 29 paid holidays a year, pension plans, staff benefits.
For today’s homework assignment you need to look up the definition of slavery.

@LadyShagworthy slave: a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.

So we are all slaves, legal property of the government our birth was registered in forced to obey our governments.
LadyShagworthy · 31-35, F
@Paliglass Don't be silly. Being required to obey laws doesn’t make you a slave.

@LadyShagworthy Laws come from Pirates. They made alot laws including laws they apply to the roads based on problems they were having with pirates.

When you brake a law and enter a court you are effectively submitting to Naval law and the judge is the captain.

Most law is about money. It's a way of taxing people which is why it's the laws they created for Pirates that they use.

Even convicts in jails hold a monetary value on the stock exchange now for the country they are in.

We are all slaves.

You convinced me, I wasn't sure before but when I looked up the definition I thought ummmm ok we're all definitely slaves.
