Feeling anxious about leaving the job I apparently “hate”.

My current job is quite up in the air. My manager doesn’t have any structure to my job and I don’t know how I’m adding value to anything or the wider company.

I’m young (24) and although I’ve worked since I was 16 this job is my “first career” job. I don’t really like my team but they are okay. We can converse without it being too awkward. I’m really helpful in my team but it kind of goes unappericated. I don’t know if this is work but the whole department has been awful (long story). I want to take my lessons learned in my role (1.5 years now) and start fresh.

But I’m anxious. What if this job is as good as it gets? Or I hate my new team? Of course I’ll think positive but I’m torn. When I mentioned to my manager I may explore other options he has been telling me that this job is good and to be patient. But nothing has changed. Still no clue what I’m doing. I come in and do nothing most days besides admin (which is not my job).

Anyway. I hope my next job (which I hope to stay in minimum 2 years) is great.
It is good to move around, find something you like. You are young enough, and it helps build an impressive resume. Be sure to stay a number of years though if you can, nobody wants to hire someone that keeps bouncing around.

I feel like I'm in the same situation honestly. But I'm leaving soon so it's their loss

There are so many companies out there and so many managers and groups of both good and bad people, every job hop is a risk, but it's a risk we all have to take at least once in our lives.

If you feel underappreciated, you have two options: voice your concerns to your manager and work out some type of resolution, or go somewhere else. There won't be a middle ground. Best of luck.

[sep]I bet you contribute more than you think you do, why else would they keep you. But why not look at the big picture and see if there is a void you can fill? Take the initiative.

@katielass I have. I’m really proactive but I don’t think it contributes to anything honestly.

@outsidethebox18 You might be surprised but if you feel unfulfilled that's more important.
