How hard is it to fly for the first time?

I've never flown on a plane and am determined to next year.

I know that I need to :
*Be aware of travel restrictions ( the post 9-11 rules).
*Plan in advance
*Get to airport 3 hours early
*Book hotel and rental before I get there?

What else do I need to do?

Can I take a late flight, like one at 10pm?
I ask because I'll be getting off late now, and if I can get a flight late one Friday night, then I can go on a weekend trip much sooner than I anticipated...
Late flights tend to be the most delayed.

Most planes get cleaned at night.
So the first flight of the day - the plane is the cleanest and usually leaves right on schedule.
The later in the day you go - delays build up.. Last flight of the day can be delayed upto 2 hrs sometimes.

Depends on the place you're going. If it's safe to go in the evening or if you book a rental car or taxi then fine

Yeah and usually late flights and early morning are cheaper

Check your airline for luggage rules, fees, and restrictions (by size and weight) and also the things you can and can’t pack in suitcases & your carryon bag. You’ll have to check around for a late flight. Depends on where you live and the demand and all of that.

Upgrade to first class, if you don't already have it. You get a nice comfortable seat and free food and drinks. It goes by faster when you fly first class

Might as well get a late night flight unless you want to get up early.

Depends on where you are flying to. There are many things to consider.

Late flights are bad. If youre not an evening person and if flights are usually delayed
How long is the flight?
