Could every song ever be improved by adding little bit of trumpet?

It's actually the Trumpsters that make a country edgy, not the trumpet itself.[/c]

Actually, no!

I watched a documentary on TV a while back which focused on the 1970's band, 'Chicago'.

What 'Chicago' used as a mainstay in every single song they ever wrote, was the trumpet. In fact, they used at least 2 trumpets blowing in harmony in every song they wrote from 1970 to when they finally ended touring as a band.

Then, some of the band members got back together and decided to do a comeback. They hired a music Producer to give their band a fresh new sound while using the same old name, Chicago.

The very first thing the music Producer did was completely eliminate the brass-sound in Chicago's new music, meaning no trumpets. Every band member got pissed off, thinking they can't make music without a trumpet. But instead, they had to learn how to play other instruments, like the keyboard as a replacement for the trumpets. This didn't go over well.

After a few years of great success with Chicago's 'new sound' which was distinctly absent of trumpets, the band thought they could do much better on their own and immediately fired their music Producer.

At that point, the band started recording all the songs over again that were once made absent of trumpets, to then add two trumpets to every song... now sounding just like their old days of 40 years ago.

Immediately, this new band called Chicago and now minus a music Producer, fell to the bottom of the charts. Suddenly, the new band sounded just like the old band they were all familiar with of 40 years prior. The band folded up their tent when record sales plummeted and put itself back on the shelf where it was never heard from again.

The music Producer they had hired to guide them to a renewed success, was none other than David Foster, whom of course they fired!

David Foster knew intuitively that trumpets were an instrument of the past and would best serve a Mexican band better than an American band.

So to answer your question, the use of a trumpet in modern music is marginal at best, especially if one intends to sell records from it's use. [/c]
