Do you support the idea of a European Super League.

I think it's flat out ridiculous and would devalue football. Tge suggestion is that some teams could be relegated but not others. Also a European second division which nobody would care about.

Mixed feelings. I don’t like the idea in principle. But the national leagues seem to be becoming less and less competitive, with an increasing gap between the top teams and the rest - which is apparent in the Premier League this season.

@MartinII Agreed and it's even worse in other countries. I don't want a super league but fans might not put up with monopolised domestic leagues forever.

Isn’t that need already met with the Champions League? The perennial powerhouses usually end up making it as it is along with a few dark horses.

@SW-User All true but there is a new proposal which would abandon the national leagues and have a NFL style closed shop with no / limited relegation. It won't happen soon but the big clubs have met.

The national leagues have been going for about a hundred years, longer in the case of England.

There are lots of problems with the proposal beyond even the huge abandonment of tradition. The richest European clubs aren't always in the biggest cities. Some fairly big European markets would be frozen out and a lot of clubs would be borderline contenders. I hope it never happens but it might because the richest clubs keep getting richer than the rest. Juve, Bayern and PSG have near monopolies of their domestic leagues.

@Burnley123 The concept of relegations and teams fighting for their lives is one of the greatest appeals to me. Here in the states, our professional teams all intentionally try to lose games once they’re out of contention, because it means a better draft position for new players the following year. Watching Premier League, some of the most exciting matches are between teams in the relegation fight that arguably have higher stakes than teams at the top. I’d love to see the concept of relegation introduced here in at least hockey and baseball where there are multiple tiers to work with.

@SW-User I agree completely. You can have minnows rising to the top level and big clubs (like Leeds and Aston villa) in the lower leagues. It means the stakes are higher and you almost always have something to play for.

Though as a Burnley fan, I'd like to see the relegation rules put on hold for one season...

Just another way to press even more money out of football.

No way! Takes more money away from the lower divisions.....

Absolutely dreadful idea.
