On a number of fronts, yes, I think so - life is regarded as a lot more valuable & there's an awful lot less casual murder and killing; slavery is generally regarded as an abomination; and egalitarianism has come into being as an ideal, if not exactly achieved.
It depends on your ideals, individual enlightenment, for instance, isn't so encouraged on the different levels of society, but some would argue why that's a good thing.
