Are humans actually stupid with a few genius that create great things and the whole species take credit for it getting the title of 'advanced'?

It might look that way, but so many people are involved in every advance, and we tend to pin it to an individual. The way science works these days, it's hugely collaborative. The name on the theory is usually the most senior name on the grant application regardless of whether they had the breakthrough themselves.

A leader without followers is impotent. There are always others working behind the scenes.
