Would it be better for America if the dollar was stronger or weaker?

Depends if you are a buyer or a seller.

Stronger

If the dollar is weaker prices would go up because companies wouldn't lose thier profit margin, but if it was stronger, companies wouldn't drop prices, they would make bigger profit margins

Depends on the trade deficit/surplus. A weak dollar improves imports. A strong dollar improves exports. There are situations in the economy when either can benefit the country.
