It is apparent now, Trump did meet Russian Ambassador before the election.... why lie about it?

.

My own opinion, not that my opinion matters a whit, is that So What if a Presidential candidate met with foreign ambassadors.

The problem now is, there have been literally hundreds of denials by his administration and spokespeople saying he has had no contact with any Russians.

I think anyone running for President would be pestered by embassies wanting to meet with the candidate and make their case, feel out the candidate on many issues, and all in all have very innocent, informative, relationship building conversations.

This would be normal in my view.

But why deny, spin, lie, deflect, divert, cajole, threaten, ostracize, etc....if you have done nothing wrong.

There is no reason to lie. To lie is to deliberately give false information, so what would be the purpose? If you have nothing to hide, say you met so and so and move on. But if you have met them, and you leave a trail, you will be found out, and when you cover-up, you leave a stinking mess.

Trump has created so many of his own problems.
Let us hope he doesn't do the same for the country.

If I had read he met with the Russian ambassador a year ago, I would literally have said 'So what?'
Even if it was all about nothing, he has created the cesspool he is in now.

It's all about PR, he will be demonized for it. Admit to nothing is the best tactic in politics.

What I hope that everyone will see one day is that all strategists are just scrambling for any foothold, nobody actually knows what will work and everyone is lost. Life is Chaos.

@Jackaloftheazuresand: this could be true without facts.

There are indisputable facts in life.
The Earth is round
Trump is President
I am typing this right now
And Trump did or did not meet the Russian Ambassador
One of those possibilities is a fact.
Has he met other representatives of Russia? Yes? No?
One of those is a fact.

If the answers or the questions cause chaos, the case for chaos rests decidedly at the feet of the President.
He is creating it.

We have to ask ourselves why.
And we have to hope we would be satisfied or pleased with the answer.

I see an agenda, I'm out

I agree with you in terms of how it's playing out now. But I don't think it would have mattered if they stayed quiet, lied or pretended to get it "all out on the table." Good reporters would have gone after this story irrespective of how the White House responded.
This dossier is proving more credible every day and there are financial components that are coming to light. There's also a string of dead Russians including the former KGB spy purported to have been involved in the dossier. This is going to come to a head either way.

The Azerbaijan links to the Trumps are very telling.

What they will eventually tell may be the reason we don't get to see Trump taxes.

@CassandraFemale17: I agree. I think it's just the tip of the iceberg right now. Things are starting to line up. We'll know when the big bombshells start to drop because Trump's tweets will become more unhinged. "Might nuke North Korea. Bad hombres. MAGA!"
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
@Ynotisay: dang. I hope you're just a bit pessimistic, but I fear you could be correct

....and that same Russian ambassador visited the Obama White House 40 some times, had dinner with Nancy Pelosi and talked with several Senators, and members of the previous administration are denying it.Trump merely got punked into some BS by the other side but admittedly he is not responding in the proper manner; I agree with your 'So what' response.
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
I would also expect as should any rational thinking person that ambassadors do visit the White House. Where their nations are as vitally important on so many levels as Russia is, it is also important they have dinners etc. That too is normal.

I can't speak for Pelosi, though I too found that interesting.

I can say I would imagine it's difficult for any politician to keep track of the hundreds of people they meet every week/Month. There will be lapses in memory where you met someone for a few seconds here, a minute there, when others are around wanting your time.

I imagine now, the GOP, as they now have the power, are inundated with requests for meetings, and for people in dinners, etc, reaching out their hands to shake. They don't all constitute meetings. No ones memory is perfect.

I'm a liberal, undoubtedly, but even I can feel for Jeff Sessions if there was a misunderstanding in his answer, or if he really forgot.

But apparently, his denials even applied to written questions.

I hope this ends soon, and is more innocent than it all sounds, but hey, when you are all singing America the Beautiful, while the band is playing Whistling Dixie, and the Conductor is performing to Please Release Me.......

A thorough investigation is needed
Because he's a Russian spy
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
I think he's too dumb, literally, to be a spy for the Russians.

Russia can use him, but never as a spy. Look how his White House leaks. They wouldn't have to have him as a spy.

The fact he is now President, and he is destabilizing the USA is mission accomplished for them. They pound the drums, and he dances.

They won, without ever having had to indoctrinate him.

In a week or two this will all be "alternative facts" or "fake news".. :D
It must be embarrassing for the White house staff to have to stand in front of TV cameras and say crap that EVERYBODY knows is not true.. :/
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
For sure.
And to be tossed into the burning embers while your boss is watching on tv, as you try to kill television investigative time, by not answering questions.

Impossible to answer really, as the only real response is, hey, the President is unhinged, and I'm here to tell you he is not unhinged. Lol

The first month of this administration has been a total fiasco. I shudder to think what things will be like in four years time.. :(

By the way they do not meet with foreign governments to DEMONSTRATE their competence in foreign relations......that would be a ridiculous premise if that was the objective, tho hopefully those meetings do draw that out.

They meet with them to establish relationships, see where their two nations can meet, where they will be apart, what they may work on together, and a host of other things.

Not to PROVE they are competent
