Why do people still have children when they know life is mostly shit with bit of happiness?

One of my regrets is having children.
Don't get me wrong. I love them to bits and would happily die for them.
But life is incredibly hard. And watching them come to terms with their struggles is tough to watch. Especially in those times when there's nothing you can do to help.

A society overall, only cares about it's survival through reproduction. It doesn't care about your personal happiness. So having children = good for the society overall
