My mom was a devoted Democrat and my dad never voted in his life. I was originally a Democrat, probably because my mom was.

In my early 20s I became a Republican. I saw a Democrat on TV criticize Republicans for wanting to build more prisons than schools. He said there are too many Americans incarcerated. That really rubbed me the wrong way. There are far too many dangerous criminals on the street when they should be behind bars. Democrats being soft on crime was a total deal breaker for me so I became a Republican and stayed a Republican.

My parents are conservative with liberal leanings. I don't know that I've ever chosen a party. I prefer to listen to what they say and decide if I agree with them.
