Do you think it's important to know about every religious festival and event that isn't predominant to the country you live?

Example as England and America for example are Christian based. Is it important for the country to know about other religious holidays and add them to their calendars?
Get shops involved in creating sales and special offers dedicated to the other religions?
Or is it for the individual to make the employer and any friend or neighbour aware and include them where appropriate?
