I didn't celebrate halloween, so no candy here.

same here, and haven't had breakfast yet.

Yay, that makes two of us. I'm waiting to get egged. lol

What happens if trick-or-treaters ring your bell?
SW-User
@NigelDoes: I don't think anyone did. I fell asleep last night. But they will egg me later like always. lol

@NigelDoes: They don't, the light was off. Most people take their kids over to the west side of town to the mansions where they give out full-sized chocolate bars.

@cherokeepatti: they broke my window shutter thing last year. I don't really like children. lol

No one showed here either which is why I'm eating too much chocolate.

@NigelDoes: I went grocery shopping yesterday and one large locally-owned store had shopping carts full of bagged candy close to each door, probably 20 cart fulls and people were buying, probably cheaper than Walmart. I bought one bag of Kit-kats but mostly for the boy I'm raising. Haven't had an appetite for candy or any sweets since I started an experiment eating resistant starch foods. `

Interesting. I usually avoid refined sugar. It's salty snacks that are my weakness.

@NigelDoes: what is really weird but it works, if you eat your potatoes and pasta cold after it's been cooked, the starch doesn't get digested, and in the process it does something to stabilize your blood sugar so you don't get surges & then crashes and start craving sweets. They say it also helps with healthy gut bacteria and helps aid the immune system....so now I'm making pasta salad with a lot of veggies in it, and cold potato salad (I don't use mayo-some soft cheese & oil is good in it). I knew they sold starch-blockers at health food and other stores and they are really expensive but you don't even need that.

Wow, that is truly fascinating Patti. Thanks for sharing that. :-)

@NigelDoes: I'm thinking something else. Since most people reheat their food in a microwave oven they are activating the starches again. I remember before I got one over 30 years ago I'd eat cold leftovers sometimes rather than messing up a pan to reheat them, cold spaghetti or other dishes...not all the time but probably often enough to help keep my blood-sugar from spiking. There is a list of naturally-resistant foods, some are OK to eat warm like beans. Even bread is more resistant if you eat it cold rather than toasted, and some grains are better than others too. White rice is supposed to be worse on blood sugar than table sugar but I was eating leftovers cold for my experiment along with cold potatoes and carrots, took the meat out of the dish and reheated it and ate the rest cold.

So glad you shared this Patti. I am absolutely going to start trying it.

@NigelDoes: Losing weight might be a whole lot easier than I ever imagined...it's not the calories or the carbs so much as the temperatures and the types of starches...I am going to buy a cookbook about it so I can have more choices on the types of dishes I make.

You have me researching this now Patti. I need to lose about 12 pounds and this might be my ticket. :-)

@NigelDoes: I stopped feeling hungry within 24 hours, I think the second day after I ate the cold potatoes...that's how quick it works and it almost seems like I've taken some kind of drug like an appetite suppressant (most of which are unhealthy and/or dangerous).
NigelDoes56-60, M
Amazing! I am seriously excited about this. :-) Gonna start today. Thanks so much again Patti.
cherokeepatti61-69, F
@NigelDoes: Can you tell me how it works for you. This is really fascinating for me on how simple & quick & low-cost it is. Think of how many billions of $ the diet food & diet company industries are making every year. The only thing I can see to hold people back is social obligations like parties but then again if you lose your appetite you won't be over indulging at those either.
NigelDoes56-60, M
I absolutely will. I'm looking now on Amazon for books on this subject. Now I feel bad for eating about 10 baby candy bards this morn. :-)
cherokeepatti61-69, F
@NigelDoes: I was doing that too but lost all cravings for sweets. I even stopped putting sugar in my coffee (I have one cup a day and was using brown sugar in it)...bought some Stevia (not the sweetest taste but helps balance the acid taste of the coffee) and I feel perfectly satisfied having it that way. I think the combination of sugar/caffiene was jump-starting my appetite every morning. I just ordered the Starch-Resistant Cookbook off of E-bay, they only had one for sale in the USA though. They have it on Amazon.

Thanks for that.
