Why do they call today Black Friday?

I have been wondering why is today after Thanksgiving, Called Black Friday? Is there A Reason for Naming it The" Colour Black". I was told its frist shopping day of the Christmas season. But didn't explain Why the Colour? It'seem to me it is referring to something ominous happens on this day every year. I see no logical reason for naming it that.

Because many businesses go into the black during this season. They will lose money most of the year (in the red) and during the Christmas shopping season, can make the years profit (in the black) in 6 weeks or so with the increased sales. It’s accounting lingo for profit and loss.

@Darin99branch I should have read the comments. Then I wouldn't have just more or less repeated what you said:).

It probably refers to the idea of being "in the black," as in not in debt ("in the red"). In financial records negative amounts (losses) have been traditionally recorded in red, where as positive amounts (profits) have been recorded in black. Businesses take in more profit during the holiday season putting them "in the black," beginning after "black Friday."

Maybe its called black friday because thats when the evil of people come out, pushing people down and out of the way to get that 50% off tv, others have even beat up and killed people on black friday its crazy and i will never be apart of something like that

@CodeLyoko okay thanks for answering that sounds crazy and Dumb. I'm still confused though. Why does everything that is Black is synomoius With Evil?? When is a colour considered good or Evil? And who decided to ascribe such a thing as black being Evi? Wher did it come from?? Sounds like b s. To me. 😂 Anyway how r u brother? Hope u have a nice black day. 😝

@Abbenthewarwolf Black represents darkness, which is symbolically associated with evil.

@MrSimons I don't believe that. Not at all.
. It was originally called Black Friday because the volume of shoppers created traffic accidents and sometimes even violence.
