Why do adults wanna be kids again?

I just turned 18! I'm living life!
My dad and brothers said "Oh you just wait. The adult life won't be like you expect. Bills, mortgage, dealing with the government, adult issures, going to doctors more, dealing with marriage/relationships, kids, and time flies and you'll be 40 before you know it. Adulting isn't fun. The world is more brutal to adults than children. You had your childhood and you're not a kid anymore."
Great....now I'm having second thoughts. I'm going to college next month and my cousin said college is different from high school and you'll be on your own. I'm cool with that. Teachers won't be on me all the time. Can't wait to party!

They probably say that because they're looking back through rose-colored glasses. You couldn't pay me enough to be a kid again. But then, my childhood was not a very happy one, and neither was my adolescence. For me, adulthood has been better for the most part, but I know that's not how it is for everyone.

But I agree that college really isn't meant for partying, though of course it's good to have fun there. College is best when you're ready to learn and prepare for your future. It's true that adulting is hard. It's especially hard if you weren't prepared for it when you were growing up, by being allowed to do things for yourself and take on some responsibilities. Having said that, I do hope you enjoy college, but also that you get as much out of it as you can. It's a great opportunity. Don't let it go to waste.
