Is it normal to feel hurt that you're not thanked for the gift you gave someone?

I don't know why I always feel this way sometimes. I went to my cousins 13th birthday which I had fun. I got him a cool shirt. I saw his best friend gave him the same shirt. When it got my my gift from him, he was like, "Oh its the same shirt. I already have this shirt. Ooh and I got $40 nice!" Then he quickly mocked on to the next gift. I couldn't believe this. He didn't even say thank you to me but to everyone else he did. I didn't make it into a big deal but I eas hurt inside. My dad wasn't. He didn't care. Maybe I didn't hear him say thanks. Am I too sensitive.

Simple solution - wait until he is 14 and gets NOTHING

I don’t know if I could fake enthusiasm if I had just been given the same gift. Maybe try being more assertive to the recipient or even offering to exchange the gift? You can’t give with expectations attached or you will always be disappointed

That you be thanked by a 13 year old. I know it’s good manners and I’ve had the same experience, hopefully he will grow out of it soon 😊

bad on him but do not make too big a deal on this you can only be hurt if you invest emotionally on this issue... consider it an accident that you got the same shirt as someone else and he just happened to open the other first. In the cosmic scale, it ain't no thing.

Manners cost nothing!!

Given his age, I wouldn't look at it as about him, rather how his parents had raised him.

Have a few "polite" words with his parents about this and how it made you feel. Who knows it just might do some good! 🤷‍♂️

Yes, you'll get over it.

Sorry to hear that very poor show from him, I would feel the same way. There is nothing what so ever on how you are feeling. Manners make the man is what I have always told my children 😊 maybe next year he will not thank you either for a very small present😊

He's 13, give him a break.

They only think of gaming and perhaps girls. 😁

@EmotionalMotherlessWoman1988 jus remember, he's coming out of childhood where the world revolves around them as far as they are concerned.
Teenage years are spent dealing with swirling new hormones and start.g to explore their world.of human relations, and where they fit in.
Thinking beyond that, doesn't come till later..
Be patient... 🤗💜
