Why are we so.... self important?

As in only we, ourselves individually, matter?
Reject · 26-30, M
A mental deficiency can be a factor. Not being able to understand any world other than your own makes you only care for yours.
Rokasu · 36-40, M
@Reject I think you understood where I was going with that. And mostly because you’ve lived through it yourself.

@Rokasu You have good acumen Roki! 🤗

It is very few people who have their lives revolving specifically around themselves.
Most people have a small group of people they also care for.
Some people care for grander causes too.

But we have to place importance on ourselves. Our psyches do not work without this self attention.

@SW-User I spose you’re right. Though I’m curious why some believe others have no redeeming qualities.
SW-User
@Rokasu narcissism.
Not me. I’m completely insignificant.
@Rokasu I’m tall but I’m too thin. Have to gain some weight first or we’d topple. lol

@DarkHeaven I have faith in you not to kill us. Well... yourself at least.
@Rokasu Hah. First thing to make me smile today. Thank you, Roka.

It's a side effect of survival instinct. If we didn't work that way we'd end up being hive beasts like ants or bees.
elafina · 36-40, F
since we're not children any more, someone has to take care of us and guess who it is...us, ourselves. we matter for ourselves just like our parents mattered to us when we were kids...
and while we could help each other in groups, we prefer to have all these individual choices and not to compromise on things, such as too much noise or absent of cleanliness or too much clutter around or too little of this and that .. sad but whenever i try and change i feel used by society or others.

I’m sure this will be hearted to death:
Social media has allowed a forum for every asshole with an opinion (including myself) to be heard. Hence, someone who is “friended” or “liked” ad nauseum is “someone” ie important.
It’s a tragedy of our time...how many badges do I have? Etc. I have to go hug my support emu now....

Ourselves should be our number one priority
Rokasu · 36-40, M
@ImRileyTheDog To what degree?
ImRileyTheDog · 22-25, F
@Rokasu To where we are happy and healthy
Well, how would things be if you didn't think you were important?
curiosi · 61-69, F
Fear, it drives us.
Rokasu · 36-40, M
@curiosi Elaborate.
curiosi · 61-69, F
@Rokasu Our ego is fearful, it must be to remain intact. Sage's tell us that the ego is false and to have peace we must let it go. This makes the ego hang on stronger.
Idontknowlol · 41-45, M
Basicly because people are selfish britches.
SW-User
Because I'm cute. Thass why
SW-User
Well, without taking care of ourselves, we can't really do anything else. You get one person taking that to an extreme, one person responding to that with their own selfishness, and it snowballs. With no real way to stop it.
SW-User
The hell does that mean
DDonde · 31-35, M
I'm not important.
Rokasu · 36-40, M
@DDonde You’re important to me 🥺
DDonde · 31-35, M
@Rokasu 🤗
