Day 5 of black history month. The more you know 馃槉

I bet all the racist people don't realize that most of their household items were invented by blacks 馃槀

Yea too bad it is not all true and some of the more difficult inventions are not on the list.

I only looked up a couple, the electric lamp bulb by Lewis Latimer, Latimer did not invent the lamp bulb, Ebenezer Kinnersley demonstrated heating a wire to incandescence in 1761, then in 1892 Humphry Davy put it in a bulb and should be considered the inventor of the light bulb even though it was a crumby bulb and not very bright. Several inventors improved on this somewhat but it was Thomas Edison who made it practical and a commercial success by three factors using an effective incandescent material, a higher vacuum than others were able to achieve and a high resistance that made power distribution from a centralized source economically viable.

So what did Lewis Latimer do ? He worked for Edison and developed an improved method of heat-treating the carbon filaments which reduced breakage and allowed them to be molded into novel shapes and got a patent for manufacturing light bulb filament carbons, he improved on someone eases idea but he by no means invented the light bulb.

Air Conditioning by Frederick M Jones, I don't think so.

Around 1938 he designed a portable air-cooling unit for trucks carrying perishable food and got a patent for it in 1942. The air conditioner was invented in 1902 by Willis Carrier.

It is not that I want to pick on black inventors I just don't like seeing people make thing up the put it on the internet for people to believe or to take credit away from people it is due.

And while I am on the subject did you know that the Wright brothers did not invent the airplane, they have been credited with the first sustained and controlled heavier-than-air powered flight but according to a 1901 Connecticut newspaper account, Gustave Whitehead -- a German immigrant -- flew his aircraft 150 feet in the air for about a half mile over the city of Bridgeport. The claim has been backed up by a respected aviation reference guide. However the Wright brothers were heros and nobody wanted to hear anything about them being beat. There is even a secret agreement which is not really secret. The Wright family signed a contract to give the Smithsonian the brothers' plane, the museum promised never to declare another aircraft the first to achieve powered flight or the plane could be taken back.

Cool, but some of those dates seem way off.
TurtlePink22-25, F
Which ones do you think? @FreeSpirit1
FreeSpirit151-55, F
@TurtlePink the guitar, hairbrush, doorknob.. seems like they have been around a lot longer than those dates.
Unless they invented different variations of the same item

@TurtlePink hello

That is good to know! 鈽猴笍 We should all be thankful our lives have been made easier.
Those are all amazing inventions and I'm sure those inventors created a variant of them but I'm fairly certain there were locks before 1893.
