It's supposed to be but the thing is, true Christians won't aim for the powerful positions (unless they must) due to abnegation, corruption and so, but every group needs a leader so the candidates for those leaders are usually people who believe more in powers that positions gives them rather than believing in God, and that lust for power later lead a lot of people into war.
I think all religions propagate peace between humans and every other creature in this world but unfortunately, the sacred texts were written too long ago and people today, if not educated in that way, can easily misunderstand certain places; this is supposed to be a job of a spiritual leader (like a priest), which should explain and bring closer religion and people.
