Would free healthcare for everyone who is legally employed be feasible in the USA?

CountScrofula · 41-45, M
The rest of the goddamn planet does free healthcare whether or not you're employed. I'm sure the US could figure it out.
LilMonkey78 · 46-50, F
Free healthcare isn't free. Someone has to
Pay for it.

Short answer: kind of
Long answer: provided the care is good enough and comprehensive enough, people will use it as you can fund it through taxes. You guys already have Medicare and Medicaid (although I don't know how they differ), so similar schemes of subsidies would work well. It's what we have here (and I think what Canada, the UK, and Australia use too) and even the hardcore conservatives tend to think of it as a necessary evil rather than from the eugenicist point of view Americans seem hellbent on using.

Uh... Who pays for it and how? Can't neglect these questions lol
cultofaction · 26-30, M
@SW-User Thousands more? What on Earth are you talking about? I'm a healthy young person. I don't even know the last time I stepped foot in a hospital. If I could opt to not have insurance, I would gladly pay the $0 out of pocket! Instead I have to pick up the slack for unhealthy people who insurance companies are required to cover by law 🤷‍♂️

@cultofaction If you don't have health insurance it can cost hundreds just for a routine checkup
cultofaction · 26-30, M
@SW-User Hundreds is far, far less than I could possibly get insurance for, and that price is only so high because insurance companies negotiate it up. Most things you pay for at the hospital cost far less when you actually pay with cash. Some hospitals are even doing programs where you get routine checkups and small things taken care of for a low monthly/yearly fee.

You have to understand that if someone like me -- healthy, young, no medical issues, never go to the hospital -- was SAVING MONEY by having health insurance, then there is no way the insurance companies would ever make any money.

Yes, everyone should be able to get healthcare payed by taxes, a little more in taxes is a lot less than paying out of your pocket for healthcare

Right now, most of us just want to get Obamacare eradicated, it really screwed over the middle class...
cultofaction · 26-30, M
@ScrewThisImDone And the poor... And the wealthy... Basically everyone except for insurance companies and unemployed people with preexisting conditions :|
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@ScrewThisImDone Obamacare was a garbage Republican idea he repurposed because it was the only universal health care he could hope to get passed and it's awful.

Now it looks like Gofundme is the national health care system for the US. Ugh.
Who pays for it free healthcare for all?🤔
Steve42 · 56-60, M
What about babies and kids?
Eternity · 26-30, M
@Steve42 fuck em.
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
How about healthcare for all.Get rid of insurance companies. All the money going to them could pay for part of the heathcare. Then tax the wealthy for the rest.
cultofaction · 26-30, M
@Butterflykisses24 How is it fair to get someone else to pay for your stuff?
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
@cultofaction It is the logical choice.I do think its fair.
cultofaction · 26-30, M
@Butterflykisses24 How is it ever fair for you to use the government to force someone else, who has no obligation to you and gets nothing in return, to pay for your stuff? Asserting that it is "fair" and "logical" is not an argument. Why is it fair and logical?
it works in every other civilized country...
