What if the father refuses to pay child support?

A couple of important issues here.

1) He can try to ignore you and hope you go away, however he cannot ignore or outrun the state's Child Support Enforcement people. You should contact them now to get the paperwork started.


2) It is important to establish paternity ASAP after birth of the child. =I had a friend who had a kid, not at all planned but he stepped up and paid support and had his name on the birth certificate. Unfortunately, he died in a car crash... But because paternity was established the young child (child's mother controls the money as the representative payee) now gets a check every month from social security. Had paternity not been established she wouldn't be getting anything.

Most if not all states have statutes where they can garnish wages, seize income tax returns, etc. They can also jail him. Some states block access to other state services so no hunting or fishing licenses. If in arrears over a certain amount they seize passports.

Send the goons to rough him up.

Just call the child support number for your area. You give them all necessary information and they contact the father.

Just send Maintanence Enforcement on him.

Courts can garnish his wages.

Then he goes to jail here...
