Have you tried to negotiate four days week trial with your employers?

I work for an American company situated in Europe. I have been trying to negotiate working four days a week.

I am on salary and work long arduous hours daily, roughly 10 plus hours. We are expected to perform but performance dwindle due to exhaustion. Studies have shown the longer employees work the more their productivity levels drop.

SW has helped sedate my brain from exploding. I wake up thinking about meeting deadlines, I go to sleep dreaming of deadlines. It's a nightmare but every time I suggest this to my employer, I'm told you're paid a hefty amount to perform and complete the task. How you manage it is your problem. 😢

HA! Good luck. The only way you would be able to manage that would probably be through ADA and reasonable accommodation, if you have a severe mental disorder or physical impairment. Even then, probably doubtful. If you work for an American company, it should be held accountable to ADA. Errr....maybe that's just for Americans.

Otherwise, maybe you can seek a 4 day a week job in Europe. It's more likely you'll find one there, than for an American company. Working for an American company, they're not going to do shit, most likely. That's excessively rare, and there are no negotiations. You're their bitch.

@Tatsumi
We have some American companies here in Malta. They’re quite clever, they pluck fresh graduates. But they pay way better than local European companies, huge margin in salary for certain career like engineers. I love that last sentence. 😂😂

@PilinisesiofParadise I can imagine so: American engineers are few and far between and have been in decline, for awhile. Most of our high quality people come from the H1-B visas: just buying other country's geniuses. Most of our graduates compete at the level of 3rd world countries [to quote Michio Kaku]. We just buy or use other country's geniuses or highly skilled workers and neglect our own.

Tis the truth. I have a thing about corporations.
@Tatsumi
Exactly as Paradise girl mentioned. I'm in the engineering field and the salary working for an American company is significantly higher.

There's room for advancement in big American companies. With experience from a big American corporation together with my qualifications can open wider doors to a prosperous career. I'm sacrificing for the greater good.

You're right, for now, I am their bitch. 😂🤣

If that's his attitude I don't think you have a chance... Some people are just hidebound in the thinking and will never change ...I work shift work, 4 on then 4 off... The days are long but the time off is nice
My job can be done at home, most of my projects requires a lot of planning. I can perform better in the tranquility of my home.

I think they don't open up the idea as more employees will likely demand the same right. @ozgirl512

@Random1Thoughts I think part of the problem is most people are lousy managers... They often come up from the factory floor so to speak with a different skill set.. They want to supervise, rather than manage
The title gets ro people's head. @ozgirl512
You might want to consider trying to negotiate work-from-home Fridays, or some of each of the daily work hours.

I have more time to actually work if I'm not commuting.

I will be more alert instead exhausted from commuting PLUS working long hours.
@Random1Thoughts In the meantime make sure you are working as smart as you can. When you are perpetually exhausted it's easy to fall into stupid habits without realizing it.
@Mamapolo2016 I have realized that that I'm falling to the trap of over working. I take more vacations time to travel now.
@Random1Thoughts Good. You're smart. You'll handle it or know when it's time to stop trying to handle it.

I managed to negotiate a 9 day fortnight for the same reason.
This gives me hope, it's doable but I have to be persistent. @ButterRobot

I’m just trying to negotiate the suspension Handed down by SW for my post yesterday.
@Random1Thoughts very true....

I just wanted someone to name me....
@Callmewhatyouwill
It was 800 plus comments but only 6 or 7 names.
@Random1Thoughts I know. It was festive
Myzery · 41-45, F
We tried that years ago and were shot down. 😕
I won't give up. @Myzery
50 hours a week is around average here in the state's....

Many of us do more than that.

It a thing here
@Random1Thoughts I average around 65 sometimes as many as 100, but that's rare.

Gotta make the time for yourself
@Callmewhatyouwill
I go to work when it's pitch black and return the same way. No wonder I look like an albino white tiger.😂
@Random1Thoughts Same. But I'm outside all day. Rain or shine.

Sometimes dawn to the next days dusk
OnixBre · 26-30, M
Isn't it against the law to work over 40 hours in a single week?
OnixBre · 26-30, M
@OnixBre No, it's not. I think they did change the overtime laws, even for salaried employees.
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
@OnixBre Average American works nearly 50 hours a week. It's illegal to not pay overtime for over 40 hours a week.
