Can you help me with my "man" confusion.

A guy liked me, chased me, begged me to go out with him. I only thought I would like him as a friend, but I ended up really liking him. Now that he knows that, he has kinda got quiet and is a little freaked that my feelings came on so soon. I've tried to explain things about myself. He is still sometimes communicating with me, but for the most part avoids my texts on fb. Usually by now a guy would have just blocked me on there if he was that annoyed. I think he DID feel something with me, but doesn't know what to think about it. My daughters like no, he's just not interested and you should take a hint. I'm hanging onto hope that if I just give him space for a few weeks he will eventually come back around. Is it possible that he really does have feelings, but at this point after having heavy discussions about it, he just wants some extra time?
