Isn’t that just a way of making replies visible to people that maybe the user didn’t want anyone to see?

Yes, and though I don’t hide my own replies, i feel this is a kind of invasion of the privacy of those who do. I feel very strongly that this reformatting should NOT have been released the way it was.

Hiding replies does not make the replies invisible it just makes them not available to all be seen from the user’s profile.

Yes. Hiding replies is kind of meaningless now although only people online and viewing the feed at the time can see it.
