Maybe they had all the materials they needed and their projects on their laptops and didn't want to transfer all of that on the uni computer and when they'd be done, to transfer it back on their laptops, for later use.

They probably had things they didn't want people to see on the computer screens so covered them with their laptops.

All she is saying that she hates when people are sitting at computers they are not using no Need for the insults.

At my office I have a laptop and two other screens. Helps when I have multiple windows open. Wonder if they planned to do the same.
