Did you know..

Earwigs ( those hideous little pincer creatures ) are actually very good parents ? They do take care of their babies and nurture them for some time after they're born....i dont kill them but do put them outside if one gets into the house

That's why they bite the crap out of you if you touch them. I spray organic orange oil spray on them and get the whole lot of them, found about 30 in my mailbox and they love to nest in damp hidden places like under flowerpots and in corners of landscaping.

@Jibby I've seen thousands of them in the past few years around here and used to never see one. They are over-populated for some reason. Maybe because the long drought we had killed off the huge ant colony in this neighborhood, I don't really know. I've found them on my living room floor, in the bathroom sink, in the shower floor, in a cooking pan on my stove (with the lid on it), etc. Too many to gently pick each one up and carry it outside.

@cherokeepatti yes if your house is on a slab like I have tile floor throughout they seem to get it right in. I keep my AC on so cold if a bug gets in it doesn't even make it a foot across the tile. It turns them into lethargic little zombies that you just sweep up and get rid of. I usually throw that outside if there's a few in the dustpan

@Jibby I poofed food-grade diachotameous earth in every place I could around this home, under furniture, under and behind appliances, in every closet, drawer and cabinet...they still get inside....have seen much fewer this year though they'll eventually die like the few spiders that are getting in do. I also put plastic strips on the bottom of my door to keep bugs out.

did you know where the name comes from, earwigs used to have wings and leap of structure to fly probably thinking and said in their tiny brain ear-we-go but as millennium came and passed and the wings got shorter all they could think to say before hitting the deck was earwig.
