I think adults are free to associate with whomever they wish. It doesn't necessarily say anything about their education. Upbringing, yes.

There are advantages and disadvantages for surrounding yourself with those a decade older than you.

I also think that linking their attitude to their age and other variables can be the same as their preference to interact with their peers. Both can start the same way; negative conclusions based on limited past experiences.
