Should i take The Bible literally? Should i believe that men lived to be 900 years old? [Spirituality & Religion]

Or should i listen to my instincts?

The Bible is neither a history book or a science book! It is a collection of powerful spiritual experiences, among the Hebrew people and the followers of Jesus Christ. Those experiences are shared with us to show the strength of their faith, and to call us to a way of faithful living that can give ultimate meaning to our lives. Let history and science teach us all they can - they are not concerned with spiritual life.

biologically speaking, if people weren't subject to the illnesses, diseases, etc. we have today, didn't have the genetic/dna damage & mutation that we've accumulated since the beginning of time, lived healthier lifestyles without all the exposure to harmful environmental effects, synthetic chemicals/compounds, modified foods, etc. It is indeed possible to live long past the modern average lifespan.

Scientifically speaking, our dna could possibly be "altered/engineered" to achieve a similar result, is a controversial science, and a matter being explored by numerous labs and studies.

Being that it's feasible, and that species that are less "evolved" than we are that can already live much longer than we can; I'd say that it's not only possible, but likely

@wildbill83 I think you'll find that the lifespan of people in the paleolithic and bronze ages was less than it is today. Of course, that doesn't mean that there weren't people who lived to very old ages, but the average was quite low. Remember that we currently have more advanced medicine and hygiene than ever before.

Yep, pretty sure people's lifespan in "paleolithic" era was short... so short they didn't even exist back then...

Biblical accounts of lifespans shortened drastically after the flood, tower of Babel, etc. well before the bronze age; that's not in dispute

I’m wondering if their concept of a year was different than ours. We say 365 days who knows what they said back in the day.

I think the Bible was meant to inspire not be followed like a manual.

Listen to your instincts.

Exaggeration has always been a literary technique of human writers. @FleshLIfe

Take a good Scripture course, instead. Learn who did the writing, who they were writing to, and what was their purpose. Tough to value the Bible if you don’t know it in a scholarly way.

@FleshLIfe Yep, me too, i think living to 100 would be bad enough.

Yes. Also, the part that says, “The LORD is my shepherd,” that part was literally written by a sheep.

Yes. It's the Word of God. He's not a man that He is capable of lying.

No, you made a declaration, and I responded. Now, you can’t stop yourself! I have you hooked. You can’t resist the urge to respond. Just watch!

argumentation is only worth the effort if both parties are open to the othe4 ones claims and willing to consider their propositions. When one is closed from the get-go, it is not worth ‘wasting one’s sweetness on the desert air.’ And thanks for proving my last point! @Emosaur
