Are there any other Christians out there who don't believe the 'fear equals sin' claim? [Spirituality & Religion]

Because regardless of how many Bible verses you can use to support the very general statement, human beings have a strong survival instinct and part of that involves human senses and emotions.

For example, if a person repeatedly yells and throws things at you, it might not be a sin to experience some sort of apprehension when you encounter them yet again.

Also not every scripture is for every context.

No, fear is a normal emotion, not equated with sin. The bible even says that it is normal to fear God...so how could it be sin?

@SWisGoingWoke OK thx. I also found some links from Google to Christian websites. Some claimed fear = sin and others explained that 'fearful' meant 'cowardly,' as in too afraid to be faithful to God, which makes more sense.
@purplepen How is your Bear?

@SWisGoingWoke I think he's ok. Just going to check on him soon. Thx for asking!

This is my post so I reserve the right to delete whatever responses I consider unhelpful. Likewise, anyone here can block or mute me if they want to.

Christians have rights too, including the right to challenge a popular belief among their own group.

@gingershuman It's a good scripture but I think CS Lewis also made a good point. Fear is part of the human experience but God's love helps us deal with it.

What christians believe that fear = sin? What a load of rubbish!

Really not very clever teachings out there.
purplepen · 51-55, F
@Abstraction Many who seriously misinterpret the Bible or just take other people's word on what it means, instead of looking at the context of what was written.

To me sin is more like giving in seduction...i don't know about fear

@SW-User OK. Thx for the genuine response.

Bravery without fear is stupidity.
purplepen · 51-55, F
@CuriousCpl OK. You get best answer for being brave enough to be honest without hate. I might not share a lot of your interests and you might find me really boring in real life, but I appreciate this honest and relevant reply.
CuriousCpl · 41-45, C
@purplepen Thanks, well I do understand the interest thing, boring has nothing to do with it. Why we are on here is not all we are, it is but one of many aspects in what we call life.

Lol, love this. Keep killing them flies!

This question is not about succumbing to anything. It's about the human experience. The difference between feeling something and succumbing to it, is like the difference between being shot and succumbing to the injury. You can feel or experience things without 'succumbing' to them.
The only way I can make the entire bible make sense is to take the entire bible. If you emphasis any part, or ignore any part, you're gonna create problems somewhere.

In other words, it is complete, and can't be changed or ignored.

Seriously I'd go on a Christian counseling / support site again if I thought their training would cover this.
