I Am American

I've read some describe their conversion
from "left" to "right wing" as part of
a natural maturing process,
as though progressives were no more than
deluded starry-eyed youngsters,
while Drumpf and Pence's brand of Christianity
were models of sanity.

This concept ignores much factual evidence,
if you read political and especially GOP history,
that our society's forty-odd-year "drift" to the right
is a carefully nurtured strain of mental pathogen
festering in the darkness like mold.
The United States no longer even tries to claim it is
the beacon of freedom giving hope to the rest of the world.

We revolted in 1776 refusing to suffer any more
under the tyranny of one of the first global corporate powers,
the British East India Company.
Our founding fathers' hope was for
a well-educated, personally responsible populace
who would be naturally attracted to the light of democracy,
the enlightenment of humanity
to more noble goals than "me first,"
the Christian ethic with no specific religious doctrine attached:
Humanism.
(Jesus-Taliban propaganda now rails against
a demonic force they call 'Secular Humanism'
as though being a human living in the real world were a disease.)
Benjamin Franklin described our new government as
"a democracy… IF we can keep it."
Not long after the French revolution followed our example,
and Franklin moved there to support it, France fell to Napoleon;
meanwhile, many other countries tried to follow
our exemplary People's Revolution,
first Haiti, then over the years
the Phillipines, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Cuba, and Iran.
Too few Americans know Iran's horrid 1979 Islamic revolution
was a reaction to our 1953 installation of the dictator Palavi.
This is an incomplete list of sovereign nations
we actively interfered with, thwarted and conquered
for the crime of trying to duplicate our People's Revolution.
The Soviet revolution was an exception;
it was poisoned from within by opportunists, and then
corporate interests engineered the first world war
to distract and to suck all the energy and resources
out of anyone tempted to form more People's Revolutions.

The last nail in American Democracy's coffin
was hammered in January 2018.
The so-called Grand Old Party, the conservative half
of our one-party corporate-funded government,
has turned blatantly Fascist,
meeting all the textbook definitions:
appeal to emotions and mythic tradition
to stress tribal loyalties to God and Family
(plus fear and hatred of The Different);
gross distortion of ethnic and religious groups
(in our case in Hispanics and Islamists)
into mythical super-enemies;
police oppression and violence, along with
state-sanctioned torture and open warfare
against those of different races
which has been condemned as criminal behavior
by the rest of the world
(except our partner-in-crime Israel
and our defacto ruling government Russia).

Meanwhile, our schools ever more closely resemble prisons,
the majority of students physically unable to learn or study
because media, especially the worldwide web
have become a hypnotizing circus.
And we're stuffed full of HCFS, fat and salt,
proven to thwart mental alertness,
and problems with easily available alcohol and other drugs
along with any other bad habit or behavioral problem,
turns people into the fodder for a cult
promoted by the psycho-pharmaceutical industry
as the only available form of mental health treatment
along with hazardous legally prescribed dope.
This cult is obviously born-again Chrisianity in plainclothes,
whose disciples are often court-ordered
(in violation of the First Amendment)
to confess their wretched powerlessness
and pray to Jesus, renamed "Higher Power."
No wonder political protests so rarely turn out
more than a few dozen people, if that.

The just-over-half of the US that didn't vote for Trump
will soon feel more than unwelcome;
internet madness is sure soon to set off bloodshed in the streets
between thugs calling each other names like Libtards and Nazis.
Then, Americans of all political stripes
will surely seek to further exhaust what remains
of a global refugee support network
already strained past the breaking point,
as they try doggedly to ignore the hard cold fact
that our own country bears a great deal of
the blame for the worldwide refugee crisis
ruining the economic and civil security
of more and more nations.
Our insane belligerence in the Middle East,
slaughtering and uprooting innocent families
for the crimes of worshipping the wrong god
and sitting on the oil we wanted to steal,
is a prime cause of serious worldwide problems,
and Americans seeking refuge,
and those remaining here as well,
are sure to be in for several rude shocks.

Have a nice day. Read Howard Zinn, Nancy Maclean, and Greg Palast.
And listen to Thom Hartmann's and Amy Goodman's programs.
