I Want to Be a Light and Inspiration to Others

I hope I can eventually be an inspiration to others too.

I have a lot of people that inspire me but none do as much as Cristiano Ronaldo. And no, I don't want to he a footballer. Lol.

The thing is, even though I support Chelsea FC I've been a fan of Ronaldo since I started watching football. The reason why is his reputation as a hard worker. A lot of people in the football world have talked about how hard Ronaldo works and how its almost beyond normal. One of his teammates from his time at Manchester United, Patrice Evra, said he hated going to Rinaldo's house for lunch after training because he kept a strict diet and after a few minutes was ready to start training again. His work ethic is just insane.

And why does this inspire me? Well because he isn't the most naturally talented player. But now he's won the award for the best player in the world, FIVE TIMES. He showed that if talent doesn't work hard, hard work beats talent. There are lots of players who were specialists at taking free kicks without much practice. Ronaldo would have to train late into the night, taking hundreds of kicks from the same spot over and over again until he perfected it. Now he's known as one of the best free kick takers and usually scores then, especially in important games (as we saw in the world cup).

So why is he an inspiration to ME??? Well, I've never believed that I really had any natural talent. At most I was decent at a few things but I've never thought myself to be talented. I wasn't always the smartest kid, and I wasn't even remotely good at singing. But I always, always work my butt off and now people think I'm incredibly smart or something. Lol let me tell you a story.

When I was in high school my school selected people to register for the Science Olympiad (Physics, Math, and Chemistry). I didn't have the best grades but I was so confident I'd do well. I tried everything to prove to my physics teacher that I was capable and wanted him to choose me so badly but he didn't (I didn't eoxect him to tbh). But I was really determined and went to the principal to ask if I could register myself. She agreed but told me I'd have to pay for my registration myself too. So I took from money I'd been saving and registered and studied like crazy. I knew I was good at physics and could do great if I out my mind to it. I'd always remember how Ronaldo was capable or competing with Messi even though he wasn't the most naturally talented player, but he could do incredible things that Messi couldn't.

So then I did the first stage and when the results came out I couldn't believe it. I came 2nd in the whole STATE!!! Suddenly everyone wanted to be my friend and take credit for it lol. Including my physics teacher. Then I wrote the next exam and came out 8th in NIGERIA. I was so proud of myself. I knew how hard I worked and how much effort and I knew I deserved it. I never got to go for the international level because of sponsorship issues and all that but I wasn't really after "winning", I just needed to prove a point to myself and after that experience I started doing much better in school. I eventually had the best JAMB result (Nigeria's version of the SAT's) in my graduating set.

Its the same thing with other things I get myself involved in. Like singing lol. I sounded horrible like, 10 years ago, couldn't stay on key, but with Michael Jackson's death I just loved singing so much and really wished I could get good at it. I'm still not "great" but you can listen to me sing in one of the featured posts on my profile. I couldn't afford voice lessons but I made the most of YouTube videos and think I really sound decent enough.

And all through this Cristiano Rinaldo has been my number one inspiration. Ever since I started watching football as a little kid I've followed his rise from a relative nobody in Manchester United to the World's greatest with many records to his name. Now he just moved to a new club at 33 years old (which is a few years away from the average player's retirement age) and from his medicals, they said he still has the physical body of a 25 year old. I'd like to think that's because of his extensive training.

Ronaldo has no idea how many lives he's changed with his success. And his confidence. How he's able to predict what record he'd break next- and then he actually goes ahead and breaks it.

I hope to inspire someone this much someday.
