If GOP House Kicks Liz Cheney Out of Leadership, Look for Calls for Members to Leave the Caucus Altogether.
"We can't embrace the notion the election is stolen. It's a poison in the bloodstream of our democracy," Cheney said, speaking behind closed doors at a conference in Sea Island, Georgia. "We can't whitewash what happened on January 6 or perpetuate Trump's big lie. It is a threat to democracy. What he did on January 6 is a line that cannot be crossed."
“The 2020 presidential election was not stolen,” Cheney tweeted on Monday. “Anyone who claims it was is spreading THE BIG LIE, turning their back on the rule of law, and poisoning our democratic system.”
She and others don't have to switch parties to make a huge difference. They just have to withhold their support on organizing Congress.
For example, Senators Romney, Collins and Murkowski could leave the GOP. Murkowski then runs as an independent again in 2022 and either wins or the Democrat candidate wins. Senate remains in Democratic control.
Anti-Trump GOP lawmakers could run as independents in 2022, pulling enough support away from the GOP nominee to result in a Democrat victory in contested elections.
They may be conservators but it is becoming more clear they would prefer a Democrat win their seats than a Trumpet.
And the only way (short of a conviction and jail time) to keep Trump from running in 2024 and, if he wins, becoming a dictator, is defeating Trumpets in 2022.
