Citing outbreak, EPA has stopped enforcing environmental laws

Because landscapers are essential; protection against hazardous waste or groundwater contamination? Not so much.
The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday abruptly waived enforcement on a range of legally mandated public health and environmental protections, saying industries could have trouble complying with them during the coronavirus pandemic.

The oil and gas industry were among the industries that had sought an advance relaxation of environmental and public health enforcement during the outbreak, citing potential staffing problems. The EPA's decision was sweeping, forgoing fines or other civil penalties for companies that failed to monitor, report or meet some other requirements for releasing hazardous pollutants.

The move was the latest, and one of the broadest, regulation-easing moves by the EPA, which is seeking to roll back dozens of regulations as part of President Donald Trump's purge of rules that the administration sees as unfriendly to business. Civil and criminal enforcement of polluters under the administration has fallen sharply.
@fairgame123 Right, 'cause bad to protect the environment and people.

That's a good thing until congress gets off their asses and actually reviews and rewrites all those stupid ass rules
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarineBob Trump has already decided to allow use of an agricultural chemical that is shown to cause brain tumors in the children of agricultural workers. And allow mining companies to dump their spoils directly into streams and rivers. Because what could possibly go wrong with that? MAGA

@windinhishair regardless of what he does people will bitch and moan. Like I said call your congressman if they don't like it they can change it
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@MarineBob Demonstrably false. There would be no complaints if Trump wasn't contravening existing environmental regulations.

I do call and correspond with my congressman all the time. He's a Republican, so he's worthless. This is his last term serving Trump.

Landscapers are not working now and with oil storage approaching full and demand at all time lows, oil production is declining during this situation. So this post is pure hyperbole.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@goliathtree Landscaping is one of the several exceptions under the Osceola and Orange county bans. So is nail care. Florida.

And it's not about shortages and supplies. It's about destryong the environment, further damaging the climate and endangering human lives. Which is not pure hypetbole, as it's happened over and over again.

Lets hope these oil and gas companies choose act responsibly even with relaxed monitoring & enforcement.
