Justice Dept. to Seek Shorter Sentence for Roger Stone, Overruling Its Prosecutors.

For those of us who still give a shit, this is what we call a violation of the Separation of Powers. Now, for all of the fascists I haven't blocked yet, we know you don't give a crap about anything but your cult leader having total control over all branches. But wait, I'll provide your rebuttal for you: "Hillary and Obama."
I read that. So this is how it’s going to go from here on: one law for the Democrats, no law for the right wing Trumpists and his supporters.

@bijouxbroussard But, as predicted, "Hillary!" Blocked one more idiot.

This is not a separation of power issue - US Attorneys are appointed and are subject to removal by the potus - they are part of the executive branch.

Is this gross and improper? Yes.
@QuixoticSoul Not just gross and improper, but really a hornets nest, with the prosecutor on the case, Aaron Zelinksy resigning and going back to Baltimore and speculation already coming out as to how to connect the dots between softening Stone's sentence and protecting Trump and the prospects of getting Zelinsky to talk to the House Judiciary Committee about what went down.

I'm giving a link to Marcy Wheeler's blog on the topic, because its interesting, but not because I think its real news or necessarily accurate. Based on what I've read from her, Ms. Wheeler is very diligent and sometimes catches on to stuff before the media, but she's also prone to chasing down rabbit holes.

@QuixoticSoul Thank you for the correction -- we need a new legal separation of functions if this interference wasn't what was intended i.e., the President affecting prison sentences at all, and in particular his political henchmen.

And even with a lighter sentence, Trump will pardon Stone for remaining loyal to him, so he'll either serve no time or a very short amount of time before release.
Human1000 · M
@windinhishair He likes making Barr his henchman, but the pardon is his fail-safe.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Human1000 He'd prefer not to use it, but now that he has been coronated and is above the law, we'll see it being used more and more to pardon his criminal swamp dwellers.

Roger didn't rat. He is still on trumps good side. So I expected something like this.
Trump is now in charge of the justice dept. Barr is his boy. So he will try to protect his own and dig and dig to try and nail his enemies.
But hey, it's what every genius dictator would do.
Wait for Rudy to be found guilty. If he stays loyal, he too will get a slap on the wrist or a full pardon. It's only fair....
Sounds like part of "draining the swamp" and getting rid of principled, apolitical prosecutors.

It explains why the DOJ seems to be hemorrhaging young talent faster than usual.
