Why does the Swastika get more hatred and censorship over the Hammer and Sickle?

Both symbols were the emblems of nations that caused great atrocities. However you see far more censorship is hate for the Swastika and SS emblem than you do for the Hammer and Sickle. The Soviet Union has caused far more death and even more so with the rise of communist powers in our history than Nazi Germany ever did.

However today you only see the Swastika used by inbred rednecks while the Hammer and sickle can be seen on the shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, and beanies of edgy skinny high schoolers or young adults in college.

Either we accept our history as the human race and by censoring them both or not get worked up about either.

The basic difference is that you can have authoritarian left, authoritarian right, authoritarian theocracies, authoritarian monarchies etc, etc - even authoritarian democracies ala Singapore - but that's not inherently required or implicit in any of them. They can all be practiced in a relatively benign fashion, and even with some level of democracy. Being a complete dick to people is not really the point, even if it happens.

But Nazism is something else.

If Stalinism had a particular symbol, it would be similarly reviled.

@QuixoticSoul usually what I see is “the one true race” being the deal breaker which I get totally. To me both are bad as both have led to the death of tens of millions. And we haven’t even touched the subject of Maoism
