20+ Years Conservative; 10+ Years Liberal - Clarity, Understanding and Pride in Change and Broadening Thoughts, Hearts, Worlds & Horizons

Conservatives are concerned with what’s in their cup.

Liberals are concerned with what’s in the river.

Conservatives focus on domestic issues.

Liberals focus on domestic and world issues.

“If you pour a handful of salt into a cup of water, the water becomes undrinkable. But if you pour the salt into a river, people can continue to draw the water to cook, wash, and drink. The river is immense, and it has the capacity to receive, embrace, and transform. When our hearts are small, our understanding and compassion are limited, and we suffer. We can’t accept or tolerate others and their shortcomings, and we demand that they change. But when our hearts expand, these same things don’t make us suffer anymore. We have a lot of understanding and compassion and can embrace others. We accept others as they are, and then they have a chance to transform.”**

When you have a greater and more expansive understanding and love for more than what impacts you personally and what’s right in front of you, you don’t worry so much and aren’t nearly as fearful of what’s impacting your small world.

Suffering is a choice. Broaden your perspective and vision. And choose not to suffer.

I don't believe all conservatives are one way, unfortunately many conservatives have become as you described in thier zeal for Trump.
When you make one idea, one party, or one man your focal point there is no room for debate or compromise, which years ago was the norm in politics.

@SW-User Thank you for commenting. I completely agree that not all conservatives are one way... and not all liberals are another way. I’ve said it before in that there is beauty in gray.

What makes me post this morning is from an overall feeling of my own ability to grow... and make choices that allow for broader interests, focus and intent. And in my years of living and breathing with a conservative leaning, I was less content, less satisfied and lived with greater limitations and rigidity. My life and love abounds. It comes with new challenges and pain, but I am so far better suited and able to manage those things with with I have the most difficulty and trouble.

It’s an observation. And as I mentioned a point of clarity, understanding, pride and also great peace. It’s quite a nice feeling and a great way to reflect on a Sunday morning.

Enjoy your weekend. I will do the same.

Thank you again for posting something that is current and thoughtful.

We do have a hard time letting go of where we are at the moment, suffering or pleasure. The impermanence is difficult to realise.

the problem being they pour everyone's salt in the river so all are drinking brackish water instead of just a few

@Jackaloftheazuresand When we broaden our perspective and allow for “the greater good,” we all thrive... as a human race, we all seek love, acceptance, fulfillment and peace in our lives. And with that, we have a greater opportunity for camaraderie, innovation and contentment without perceived expense to one another. There will always be concessions made to achieve this. But the greater good is what’s most important.
