Reparations for slavery is idiotic

Not one person that screams about this was a slave
Graylight · 51-55, F
The problem is that slavery led to alienation and derision, which led to poverty, which often led to crime, and the undercurrent of racism over the decades has become institutionalized. This is a societal problem and likely not solved in any way through reparations, but it's a problem that needs to be addressed by our culture nonetheless.

It is worth pointing out that every other people slighted by US policies have received reparations. Japanese-Americans, Native Americans, Eskimos, Jews, German-Jews...but never African Americans. The US has steadfastly refused to financially admit culpability for slavery.

[and anyone even thinking about shouting that white aren't the only people who had slaves, hover elsewhere, please]

@FelixLegion very true. There are very few cultures and races that did not have slaves at one point

What of the wealthy white families that made plenty of money and as a result their descendants influence politics and business today ?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Harley4Life I never suggested any of them were !
You have the view that nothing is owed and that's clearly not the case is it.
So if descendants of those self-same slaves wanted reparation, how is it unfair of them to want it ?
@Picklebobble2 because they are looking for a hand out that is NOT warranted. This country has made many mistakes and bad choices in its existence however it has done many things to help the black community even though most are to blind to see it.

@Harley4Life And yet statistically even today, if you're black you are far more likely to be mistreated or ignored in terms of being a victim of crime; poverty; poor housing; poor nutrition; poor education........ Where's the advancement ?
