Thoughts on Ben Shapiro?

I first heard of him after listening to a Joe Rogan podcast, I throughly enjoyed it and whilst disagreed with some things he had to say I actually thought he was worth listening to. After following him twitter he seems to twist things to suit his own narrative regardless of whether it's accurate or not. I'm from the UK by the way, hence why I wasn't so familiar with him.

I'm also from the UK but I've seen him on YouTube.

I respect his intellect and have sympathy for him on a personal level because he is the old school American Conservative who left Breitbart for principled reasons. He has also had to deal with a lot of anti semetic abuse.

But his politics are terrible. Like you say he does like to twist things and also uses straw man arguments. He compares himself to the shoutiest elements of American University politics to make himself look like the sensible one. He's pro gun, anti abortion, pro tax cuts for the rich and so on.

He is a very skilled debater though I have yet to see him go up against someone on the left who can debate well.

I like Ben. I think he's an interesting guy with interesting viewpoints. Definitely makes Conservatism more appealing for a younger demographic.

@5thApprentice he seems a decent guys and I get the feeling he truly believes in what he says. I don't agree with a lot of it mind.

However, I feel its wrong that he gets shut down at some schools just because of his political stance.

I think we should challenge ourselves with opposing views.

I couldn't agree more with people trying to block people from speaking at universities.

What I fear is people are just creating echo chambers for themselves and an intellectual prison from which they're their own warden.

If you're only response to something you don't like is to shut it down or silence it instead of addressing the idea...what kind of society will we live in? Scary.

@5thApprentice I have no idea who he is but I'll check into him.

I like him. Some stuff he mentions kind of apalls me but then I do not know whether they are true or not. He is a smart man.
revenant · F
@SW-User well they all do ; whichever side so !
SW-User
@revenant yes, the past 18 months neither the left or right have covered themselves in glory. So much "fake news" from both sides. It was the same here in the UK with the EU referendum. I am firmly on the remain side but there were so many lies from both sides it's so frustrating.

@SW-User Britain is quite in the news those days ! am in
Canada and we can compete for the most looney tunes !

He is hated by the left and faced with protests every time he speaks at a college so, obviously, he is one smart dude.
SW-User
@eli1601 I am probably a lefty/Liberal. I would almost certainly vote Democrat if I was American, however, I do think the many of the left are too easily triggerred these days.

everyone in the media does this
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Lol. If you go yahoo and type his name in, it describes him as: "An American Conservative political commentator; columnist; author; radio talk show host and lawyer."
.....really ??......what a talented man to pick so many professions to be hated in !
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@Picklebobble2 He is also a wonderful violinist
katielass · F
It's also why you're not familiar with the truth of what happens here.
Scubaguy027 · 46-50, M
He is definitely someone l would not want to debate
Racist. Like most conservatives. Agreed with Trump about “sh*thole countries”. “Authority” on what blacks shouldn’t admire (like the movie Panther) all the wonderful things they already have now that racism is over. 🙄
SW-User
@bijouxbroussard I think racist is a bit harsh, although I haven't seen or heard enough to make an informed opinion on that.

The stuff about Black Panther was pathetic from him. He's assumed everyone has said good things about it because it's a predominantly black cast. Ridiculous idea to be honest I love Marvel films, I enjoyed it but not as brilliant as many have said. I think the majority of people who watch film base the quality on merits not the colour of its cast.

I'm not saying you are wrong on him being racist I just haven't seen that side of him.
