I gotta ask... what are your thoughts on Trump's "Take the gun first, go through due process second" quote?

Graylight · 51-55, F
I couldn't believe it. When we hear foreign dictators issue such proclamations, we cringe and call out the UN. When Trump says it, it's just Wednesday? Why? Because he hasn't made it come to pass? Wait for that and it'll be too late. He wants the government of his choosing to benefit him and his friends at whatever expense is necessary. He is using US citizens to further his personal agenda by standing on their throats. What is so goddamned hard to see about that?

It’s scary. Once you start taking people’s rights away without due process, there’s no telling where it’ll end
Miram · 31-35, F
Not realistic. I am assuming though that he means anyone diagnosed with a mental illness will be robbed of his weapon.

Most diagnoses seem to be made to access healthcare not very credible evaluations.

And not all of those suffering mental illnesses are violent. Each case is different.
Miram · 31-35, F
@CountScrofula Thank you. I do think it's related. The shooters were on medications that do have progressive aggression as a side effect. But this isn't the way to solve the problem. I think he is saying whatever to silence the masses.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Miram Well it is related. Clearly you are unwell if you go shoot up a crowd of people. But what people have been saying is "Well it's a mental illness problem" and then absolving themselves of social responsibility and not looking at bigger problems of gun culture and masculinity.

And yeah, he's saying whatever comes to mind. I asked this question because his supporters are panicking and don't know what to do with this line. Heh.
@Miram

Well summarized

Sounds like "Launch our nukes, worry about retaliation later" to me.

This from the guy who wants doctors to stop issuing opiates but is seemingly quite happy for school shootings to continue without investing in serious security for them.

He wants locking up. They all do.

I'm not a fan of anyone's rights being compromised. If we continue going after feel good half baked ideas and ignore the real solutions these shootings will continue to occur. But I guess some people will never learn.
He’s a moron. It’s the same thing he told the police. But I think it’s a delicious irony that he may be the one who actually starts taking away folks’ guns. Especially after the NRA had people so paranoid about Obama and Clinton.

@SW-User IT'S SO DELICIOUS
It will successfully navigate the 2nd amendment, search and seizure, right to trial and right to express.

It extends what already exists for homeland defense

It likely has a low barrier and little resistance.

It could simply pivot on getting a warrant within 2 hours to hold the weapons until a judge weighs in.

The danger would be if there is a single case of misuse. Distrust would rise so high, that the law would create a new set of dangers.

... so, part of due process would be the need for a substantial penalty for misuse ... and THAT would be the controversial aspect.

Not legal nor is it Constitutional. It is Obamaesque, a total totalitarian decree.
I'm wasn't aware of it but I don't like it.
