I think every American should own one of these.

HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
Dude, get a grip: http://ideas.time.com/2013/10/14/jfk-was-a-political-conservative/

1. JFK was a fiscal conservative

"Kennedy was a conservative by the standards of both his time and today. While he increased military spending, overall he restrained federal outlays. His plan for economic growth emphasized not deficits but tax-rate cuts that he argued would eventually pay for themselves by increasing government revenue. He reduced tariffs in pursuit of free trade, and he took a hard line against communism abroad and at home."

2. The Apollo program was a Cold War Initiative. JFK hated Communists.

"At the Mormon Tabernacle in 1960, Kennedy said, “The enemy is the communist system itself — implacable, insatiable, unceasing in its drive for world domination.” And in Berlin in 1963, Kennedy said, “There are some who say in Europe and elsewhere we can work with the communists. Let them come to Berlin.”

It’s not only Kennedy’s speeches that define him as a conservative, but also his actions in office. Kennedy had run in 1960 to the right of Richard Nixon on Cuba; as Nixon recalled it in his memoir, after their first televised presidential debate, “Kennedy conveyed the image — to 60 million people — that he was tougher on Castro and communism than I was.” In the Cuban missile crisis, Kennedy ordered a blockade, disregarding the advice of more dovish advisers such as McGeorge Bundy, Adlai Stevenson and Robert Lovett.

"Even Kennedy’s signature initiatives, the Peace Corps and the effort to send a man to the moon, are best understood as Cold War efforts to best the Soviet Union in the frontiers of the developing world and of space. As Kennedy said in one tape-recorded meeting about the NASA budget: “Everything that we do really ought to be tied into getting onto the moon and ahead of the Russians … Otherwise we shouldn’t be spending this kind of money, because I’m not that interested in space.”"

"Time" magazine is not a hard right media outlet. JFK was not the "Liberal Lion" that Teddy was.

Sorry to burst your bubble, be he was not a liberal in the current sense.
The founding fathers were all liberals! the liberals have been on the right side of history from the start of this country from abolishing slavery to the vote for women to civil right conservatives fought all these thing!

I think every American needs a "common sense" license it's not good for hunting anything but it sure is the most important license anyone could own.

Exactly! Very good dyinginside. That sense of rugged individualism and a lack of entitlement is certainly missing today.

Swarog

http://www.jfklibrary.org/JFK/JFK-in-History/JFK-on-the-Economy-and-Taxes.aspx

The president finally decided that only a bold domestic program, including tax cuts, would restore his political momentum. Declaring that the absence of recession is not tantamount to economic growth, the president proposed in 1963 to cut income taxes from a range of 20-91% to 14-65% He also proposed a cut in the corporate tax rate from 52% to 47%. Ironically, economic growth expanded in 1963, and Republicans and conservative Democrats in Congress insisted that reducing taxes without corresponding spending cuts was unacceptable. Kennedy disagreed, arguing that “a rising tide lifts all boats” and that strong economic growth would not continue without lower taxes."

Ah Devil, that's not quite correct. Prior to the Civil War, Democrats were the ones in favor of maintaining slavery. It was Republicans that led the charge to abolish slavery. Lincoln was the first Republican President.

Liberals have given us such things as communism and socialism.

Of course you'd take ted kennedys word over ours teddy boy only tried to drown someone with his car if that wasn't him then it must have been some other kennedy then that just so happends to look like ted kennedy
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
That's nice Swarog, but it is not specific. JFK is speaking in generalities here.

What politician would publicly admit that they do not care about the welfare of people?

Besides, Profiles in courage was about other people and about the qualities JFK admired.

As an Irish-Catholic from Boston, JFK had to be a Democrat to get elected to anything. My point is that JFK is not a liberal in the sense that Teddy was.

JFK was a fiscal conservative in the truest sense of the word, a big backer of the military and took a very hard line on communism.

Barack Hussein Obama he wasn't.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
A typical liberal. Armed with no facts, and bereft of tact, he immediately resorts to insults.

Thanks Dude for ending the discussion. I never have a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Swarog typical liberal can't come up with a good counter arguement so the first thing they do is insult.

All the people who want Swarog gone heart this comment please.
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
That's the point Swarog. You are viewing the world the way you want it to be rather than the way it is. You want JFK to be the Liberal Lion, but his own actions and speeches paint a different picture. Yet despite the fact I'm merely providing JFK's own words, you still wish to deny what he actually is, as described by JFK himself.

BTW Swarog, your quote, "Kennedy was a proud liberal per his brother Teddy. Read his last biography. Dolt"

Keep in mind that other people write biographies. It's not an autobiography. The author can put any spin on the book he wants.

I'll let JFK's actions and speeches speak for themselves.

hami1091 i agree with you on that
Wow. Advocating exterminating anyone who disagrees with you. And you think liberals are the problem? I think like your namesake you could stand to spend some time in an institution with a heavy regiment of anti psychotics if you think this is rational.

The modern concepts of American liberals and conservatives did not evolve until much later in the 20th Century.
