I sat at dinner last night with my newfound Italian friend and we talked a lot. He was quite good at talking, not too much about himself, not too inquisitive about me, making observations about life and commenting on what has been happening in Europe.
He is a sincere man, a helpful and respectable man, complimenting where he felt he should, but not presumptive. Quite refreshing really, when the men I have met lately have been off balance in many ways it seems to me.
He has a days work today driving into the interior villages and towns, but he has said if I wait around and explore this locale a little today he will meet up with me later and drive me into Rome. How could I refuse? I'm going to sit by the coast and have a rest today, maybe see the mountain park near here and wait for my lift to the city, the eternal city.
