Why do some people treat their step kids different from their biological kids.

My cousin and his wife have a 3 yo girl, and recently his older daughter from a previous relationship moved in with them. She is about 14 and she hit the 3yo and she's always fighting with her. So, his wife told him to whip her with the belt, and he did. Then, he asked his wife if she was happy now.

Physical punishment to a child that has mental issues is extreme and shouldn't be done. Its obvious the 14 yr old shouldn't be left with the toddler and closely monitored. On the other hand Dr. Spock can be blamed for how an entire generation is turning out. Its obvious talking to a child over and over again does nothing.

Conflicts like this over discipline do more harm than any particular method of discipline or punishment. The older child needs some help because hitting a 3 year old kid is not OK or legal in most places.

14 yo shouldn't beat 3 yo and it was harsh the teenager beaten with belt. Any punishment involving physical torment is not acceptable. They should have approached the problem better
I can tell you why my step-father did. We weren't his children, we were just people that live with him. That came from his own mouth. So we were treated like whipping boards

Is the teenager disabled mentally?

@ToSirwithLove she needs to be removed from that young child. If she can’t be trusted to not hurt her, and they allow her to have the opportunity to hurt her. They can get in trouble. That older girl may need more help than they can provide
