Does your family treat you differently on your abilities/career/choices you make?

I noticed my mother's parents and siblings see my siblings and I as something not worth. My brother is autistic, my sister is very shy and she didn't do well at school and college but she's having a fairly good job and my mother is divorced. My maternal family see highly of my cousins who were doctors but criticizes everything rest of us do. I thought it was just an Asian thing I didn't take it seriously. But I didn't know they saw us indifferently when they tried to marry off my sister to a guy who is worst pick they could find. My sister didn't like the guy and she expressed her concern. But they said my sister had no right to question the man's incapability when she's useless. Their words hurt my mother and I. Nevertheless we rejected the guy's proposal which didn't please my mother's family and we didn't care. One thing's for sure, that one incident broke our relationship.

Yes, I think so.....

Mum’s side of the family were ok with me....

Dad’s? Certainly not! Took 3 years to get him to accept the way I live my life, and then we had a bust-up, and then around 9 years to get over that!

My grandmother, on my dad’s side, never really accepted me. Ignores me these days. My dad and I made a pact; not to speak about my life and just enjoy the ‘here and now’.....

I can be hard at times....
