Should kids be allowed to do chores anymore or is that old fashioned?

Poet626 · 31-35, M Best Comment
They shouldn't be allowed, they should be required to earn certain privileges

@Poet626 Okay nice
@Poet626 if this isn't best answer nothing is.

It should be a requirement.
IMO you don't get them to do chores, they'll remain unproductive and possibly become dependent on others to do things for them.
SW-User
I was never allowed to. I had to do them.
SW-User
@SW-User I think I need to edit my question haha

Allowed? Does not compute.

They are members of the house they live in. Self care and environment care is not optional. They may not be able to be efficient as little ones, but they will never learn what it is to be a respectful cohabitor if someone does cooking/housework for them. They should be shown and expected to participate as soon as the can.

I don't get paid to do chores, why would I pay them? If they need/want money, they can ask me I will likely give it.

Allowed? You mean required...
SW-User
@BrattyMel haha Yes.
BrattyMel · 31-35, F
Lol. Definitely children should have chores. @SW-User
Only if you want them to learn responsibly
BlueVeins · 22-25
Yeah, it should be an expectation.
FloorGenAdm · 51-55, M
I don't think they actually DO the chores nowadays. They talk about em, look at em, take selfies with em...but they don't actually do em.

Chores learn a child a little discipline and if u reward them for the chores it gives them encouragement and also let's them know that you have to work for what u want in life
NeloAngelo · 26-30, M
No its not old fashioned. My plan for kids is that they get the basics. Everything they need. If they want any special privileges tho they need to earn it a lil
SW-User
Eh. I wouldn't make my kids do chores. As long as they go to school and get good grades.
ScarletWitch · 26-30, F
@SW-User good point! Unless they wanna make some money. I say add an allowance to make a few bucks.
SW-User
I think everyone living somewhere should have to contribute in a way they are capable of. But chores are defined as a tedious but necessary task. Doesn't sound like great marketing to kids. My dad used to call it family work time and we'd all feel like part of a team and he'd encourage us. I found it was a great attitude to take into a relationship later on.
ScarletWitch · 26-30, F
Duh! If they want an allowance...
SW-User
Mine has chores and he’s 5
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Allowed? More like required.
SW-User
I always had to do it, and still do it.
black4white · 56-60, M
Since when do kids have this as an option? It’s a non negotiable part of life...Now if I reward you with an allowance good for you and if I don’t then consider your rent ,your food and clothing as payment
Fernie · F
Allowed? That kind of implies that they really WANT to DO chores badly BUT ARE JUST NOT ALLOWED TO!...HA HA HAAAAAAA
SW-User
@Fernie haha I know. But I guess they get the jist of the question.
VolpeTredici · 31-35, M
They need it in my opinion. I builds structure and teaches them that life is work. Helps prevent these spoiled, entitled turds that make a mess of everything.
SW-User
It's good for kids to have some responsibilities at home. Plus you can offload the things you don't want to do on them.

Of course. They have to learn to clean up after themselves eventually.
Put the fuckers to work
Smtwn829 · 36-40, M
I make my kids do chores.
Riverman · 56-60, M
Train them to work and have a job. Or not train them so they can have welfare.
its really boring but I think its good that we learn how to do it
MartinTheFirst · 22-25, M
