Why do people feel the need to put a damper on a kid's creativity?

I was waiting to get my nails done and this woman was there with her daughter who was about 6 or 7. The little girl asks if she can get her nails done and her mom tells her to go pick out which colors she wants. She sent her back like four times telling her those colors weren't acceptable or whatever. Why? Does she think people are going to look at her kid's nails and me all "Woah Barbra! Yellow and turquoise? Why would you let her do that?" It's nail polish not a tattoo.

I see your point but maybe she was just trying to teach her about what she considers good taste. Personally, I'd let her paint her nails whatever colour she wanted and wait a little while before teaching about tastes.
@katielass It's just how rude she was to her. Like one time she said "Are you kidding me? No." I understand teaching good taste but at such a young age does it really matter? She might as well have just picked the colors for her.

@GreenGoddess She should definitely not have spoken to her like that in front of others. Bad example she set for her daughter. And I agree, you start teaching them about what's "appropriate" a little later, like in their teens. But even then you let them express themselves to a point.

I've seen things like that many times
