What happens to orphan/kids that are not adopted ?

you end up in foster care, group homes,shelters etc
you can age out of the system at about 21 years of age. but you can also sign yourself out legally at 18.
(i know from personal experience)
they DO have something called "independent living" courses that are an option in some places. i had the option of having some of those courses as well as attending some of the retreats(field trips)

They stay in their children's home and are taught independence as far as possible before they have to leave to live independently at 18
