I don't know about others but I know one person who did that to me.
From what I understood, it was because I was her backup. The fool who wouldn't say no. I just stopped being the fool to fix the equation.
Some people tend to use people like this. They either didn't want to breakup or they did. Sometimes they just don't want to be alone so they'll settle with the ones they find. It won't last long though as they'll eventually move on to someone else.
