I Love Music

Best rock instrumental, CLASSICAL GAS, by Mason Williams
I miss the days when instrumentals could actually top the billboard chart and compete with Sinatra and Nat King Cole. As well as the Doo Wop and Rock and Roll acts of the 1950's. Ann many Link Wray, Duane Eddy, Percy Faith, Nelson Riddle, and even Dave "Baby" Cortez never even released, with intent for fame, their music. They just wanted to entertain.

Some , such as Herb Albert DID want fame-and they got it.

It is the ones that put out a song, with no pretense, that I find endearing. Here are a few.

An honorable mention goes to this. Ad while the theme is what is remembered I remember this as i can still see Jenny skating to this and a young Oliver watching her shortly before she wants to visit a hospital.

Excellent choice. Do you know Tommy Emanuel? He does classical Gas unbelievably!
Check him out on YouTube.

A great tune! I remember it from back in the day, when he performed it on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Here he is with live orchestral accompaniment:

That is a very decent instrumental.
Was that 60s or early 70s?

@Razorback I remember this when I was young. I was 9 then; it was one of my favorite songs.
