I don’t think it matters so much that Mayer himself isn’t black….but that the song’s lyrics don’t have the relevance to important issues facing blacks doesn’t make it a good choice (especially when there are so many other songs that would be more applicable).
Without knowing the guy or what his reasoning was, I don’t want to make a judgment that it’s not justifiable….but it definitely wouldn’t have been one that I’d choose.

@Dragon56: [c=#4C0073]Im not big on the whole black or white crap, but I think if you're going to do something that represents an idea, then you should be more considerate of your choices and try to encompass what that means on a wide scale. That was my only issue with it. I love the song, I just didn't think it fit what he was aiming for.[/c]

@YourMomsSWcrush: Pat Boone was actually responsible for getting the music of black artists heard by mainstream audiences by doing covers of their hits and giving them the credit they were due for writing the songs….so he might have actually been a better choice in some respect.

That's like saying Jewish people having holidays is detrimental to equality. It's acknowledging the contributions of a group. It's BLACK MUSIC MONTH not BLACK MUSIC IS THE BEST MONTH. You seriously need to get over yourself.
